About the book

A-Z of Feelings is an illustrated reference dictionary. With input from teacher colleagues, I chose 52 emotion words — two for each letter of the alphabet — from 'amazed' to 'zealous'. Each word is paired with a child-friendly definition and an original illustration by Daniela Frongia, whose work captures children experiencing the feelings in recognisable everyday moments.

The range of vocabulary included is deliberately broad, combining everyday words with some unusual and ambitious ones. It is also deliberately balanced so that each letter (as far as the English language allows!) pairs a positive emotional experience with a harder one, ensuring that children can understand and express both pleasant and unpleasant feelings.

The book is designed to be used across the primary school age range. The illustrations make each concept visually accessible to pre-readers, early-readers and non-speaking children, while the written definitions can be accessed by older children and those who can read more confidently.

The book can be explored independently by children who are seeking a word for how they feel, or used by adults to open conversations about emotional experience.
